BRICS STI framework opens global research call for joint projects across water, AI, energy, health, food and materials science
The BRICS STI Framework Programme has called for joint research proposals from scientists and institutions across member countries. The initiative promotes collaboration among at least three BRICS nations to address global issues in water, AI, energy, health, food and materials science. Applications are open until July 3, 2026, via the official DST portal.

A call for new research proposals by the BRICS STI Framework Programme has been issued for scientists and organizations across member states. This is to foster collaboration through joint research activities in order to address various global challenges. Collaboration will be between at least three BRICS countries.BRICS stands for Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa as BRICS group. BRICS STI aims to facilitate collaboration among researchers where ideas, technology, and other resources can be shared.

Water research: Focus on safety and smart systems

One of the main areas is water research. Scientists will work on better ways to track water systems and improve water treatment. The programme also focuses on reusing water and managing water resources in a better way. Another key goal is to reduce damage from floods, droughts, and other water-related disasters using data and modern tools.

AI and computing: New technology push

Another area that needs focus is High Performance Computing (HPC) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Innovations and advances in computer technology, HPC, AI, and even the concept of quantum computing need to be explored to come up with faster and more efficient digital systems.

Energy: Sustainable and smart energy systems

Under energy technology innovations, the focus will be on solar power technology and other renewable forms of energy. Also under consideration are smart energy networks capable of efficiently using renewable energy.

Health: Better medicine and digital care

In health and medicine, the programme supports research in biotechnology, genetics, and modern healthcare tools.AI-based healthcare, telemedicine, and diagnosis and treatment methods will be studied by scientists as well. Personalized medicine is an equally essential area.

Food: Better and smarter agriculture

Another significant area under consideration is the one related to food security. Scientists will research climate change-resistant crops, advanced agricultural techniques, and agriculture-related technology, along with fisheries and food safety monitoring.

Materials: Advanced and innovative materials

The next issue concerns research into the development of novel materials that are more efficient than current ones and that have special application in different sectors.Such materials may find their use in the field of energy storage, healthcare, and technological innovations. This category includes nanomaterials and biomaterials.
