Arjith Shankar, son of filmmaker S. Shankar, has officially stepped into the world of cinema with the launch of his debut film ‘Lover Boy’. The project was introduced through a traditional pooja ceremony that marked the beginning of the film’s production.The romantic drama is directed by debutant Ashok Kumar, a former assistant to filmmaker Atlee. The film pairs Arjith opposite Telugu actress Krithi Shetty who was last seen in Pradeep Ranganathan’s ‘LIK’.Among those attending the pooja ceremony were directors H. Vinoth, A. R. Murugadoss, and Jason Sanjay, along with producer Madhan. Music composer Thejas Krishna makes his Tamil debut with ‘Lover Boy’.

The production team shared their official announcement on social media, describing the launch in a celebratory tone. Meanwhile, director Shankar’s recent directorial projects include ‘Game Changer’ (2025), a Telugu political action film starring Ram Charan and Kiara Advani, which received a mixed response from audiences.He also directed the Kamal Haasan starrer ‘Indian 2’ (2024) and that film also received varied reviews upon release. With mixed reviews and poor box office performances for films after Vikram’s ‘I’, the fans of the veteran filmmaker are expecting a grand comeback with a highly awaited project.Recent reports said that Shankar is planning a fast past thriller with a young hero and this project may happen before his highly anticipated film ‘Velpari’ written by Su. Venkatesan.
